The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)

IMDb plot summary: Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark become targets of the Capitol after their victory in the 74th Hunger Games sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem.
Directed by Francis Lawrence. Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Sam Claflin and Jena Malone.

I feel pretty much the same way about this one as I did about the first. It's a solid adaptation. It feels kind of weird to rank the two movies separately since this is clearly like... the middle of a story, rather than a story in and of itself. The acting continues to be good here, the costume and production design continues to be intriguing, there's not really a lot of change from the book so there's nothing to discuss there. (Mini rant: Unfortunately, while Catching Fire is probably the most interesting book in the trilogy, Mockingjay is coming up next, in which nothing happens until the final 40 pages... and THAT is the one they choose to split into two movies? Silly.) 3.5 stars.

Flickchart: #797 out of 2053, below National Treasure and above Bolt.

Rent on Amazon.

Completely agree that it was a dumb idea to split Mockingjay into two movies. I do not know how I am going to sit through the entire first movie, and the first half of the second. There had better be some stunning cinematography to make up for it.

The first one still seems a bit better in my eyes, but this one still keeps the story moving along at a fine pace. Good review Hannah.

Abbie: I feel like they're going to have to make up a LOT of new subplots if they expect ANYONE to sit through part one...

Dan: Thanks! Although watching all the set-up in the first movie was great, I did like Catching Fire best out of the book series, so I was glad when they did a pretty good job of adapting it. We'll see how they finish the saga.
