28 Days Later... (2002)

A very solid horror/thriller, whether you want to call it a zombie movie or not. Right from the opening, it does a great job of building an extremely creepy atmosphere, while moving the story along enough to keep it from feeling like just an atmosphere movie. There are so many great moments where I found myself holding my breath, just hoping the protagonists would make it out okay. Very, very nicely done. 4 stars. Maybe 4.5 after another viewing someday.

Best Part: The early scenes of Cillian Murphy wandering the empty streets are absolutely haunting and stunningly beautiful.
Worst Part: (Spoilers.) The very final fight in the bunker was difficult for me to visually follow. I had trouble setting all the different soldiers apart and figuring out who was who. It made the climactic ending somewhat frustrating for me.
FlickChart: #303, below The Gods Must Be Crazy and above An Education.

You seem to walk a similar line as I do when it comes to choosing film, I also love musicals and least like westerns but I do enjoy rare and unusual films. ‘28 Days Later’ definitely was right up my alley in the acting and eeriness of a disaster so practical it’s scary. Cillian Murphy is an actor I enjoy watching although I don’t see him much in American film. He does a phenomenal job portraying his role and I would agree the best part is the realism of the emptiness of London. I like the alternative endings due to the full circle that becomes apparent in with Jim ending up in his hospital bed. However, the movie seems to become brighter at the end of the theatrical version if I remember correctly as the plane flies overhead. There was a film I saw recently that is just wonderful as it is a real mind warp. It’s called ‘Stay’ and stars Ewan McGregor, Ryan Gosling, and Naomi Watts and really get’s up there on the surreal scale. Whenever I go looking for a new film, I want to be blown away or taken away and that can only be done by specific films. As you probably know loving musicals, Ewan McGregor also starred in another one of my favorites ‘Moulin Rouge!’ That film and its brilliant collection of collected songs strung together is among my overly viewed choices. I also have a blog about film and the various aspects that bring us to our knees or leave us smiling the rest of the day. Perhaps I should also mention the genre that keep our mind twisting and turning the rest of the night after tangling with the idea within; ‘Never Let Me Go’ 2010. That film carries from a novel of the same name from 2005, which I have yet to read but can only, imagine will have the same effect on me is in one of my favorite categories; adaptations. That is usually where I spend most of my time researching for my blog but I stray when I am moved by a particular film. I travel a serious amount of time so I use my research as a soothing way to embellish my passion and distract my mind from my work. When I first relocated, it seemed like a good time to reassess certain aspects of my life especially with the economy we were and are in right now. As far as entertainment providers, I knew I would need satellite because of the options available. Due to my joy of film and writing, I require a service that provides me with the necessary options for my needs. It was a bit shocking that Direct TV requires an online rebate application to get new customer promotions, which take 6-8 weeks. There are no extras for the basic package if that is all I can afford. Meaning no free HD for life, or an upgrade to a DVR should I need one. Nor would I receive premium movie channels once I am a customer as I found with Dish Network once a customer. This is not an option due to what I am looking for. Dish offers far more programming and movie channels for far less money plus a free Sling Adapter free through a rebate to qualifying new and existing customers, which fits me as I travel a lot and need to bring my services with me. I ended up changing jobs and started working for Dish Network, I am still traveling a lot but I have what I need now. More recently, I became aware that as of October the Blockbuster Movie Pass was launched. Hello Live Streaming! For someone like me who travels more now and needs specific access this comparison is blatantly obvious to me. Looking at my options is a gift from my Dad, how thankful I am that he gave me a broader perspective that I can utilize throughout my creativity. Films will keep me occupied as long as creative minds keep developing fantastic stories to entertain the minds of people such as you and me.
