The Revenant (2015)

IMDb plot summary: A frontiersman named Hugh Glass on a fur trading expedition in the 1820s is on a quest for survival after being brutally mauled by a bear.
Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Domnhall Gleeson, and Will Poulter.

(Very very mild spoilers about the tone of the ending.)

Whoo, this is a rough watch. It's dark and horrific and there is lots of blood and I think it was a good move to not get popcorn during it. And I'm not entirely sure that the ending was a big enough payoff for the 2 1/2 hours before that. It was ramping up to a REALLY big ending, and then it all seemed a bit... anticlimactic. The cinematography, however, is stunning, DiCaprio and Hardy are both splendid in their roles, and there are some really breathtaking scenes. If the ending had sat better with me, it could have scored a lot higher.

3 stars.
