True Grit (2010)

I was not expecting to like this movie at all, as I don't like westerns and am iffy on the Coens, but it totally won me over. The acting is superb, and the little touches of humor along the way soften the dark overtones of the story. In my top half of Best Picture nominees this year. 4 stars.
