AAHHH! I read the books and DESPISED this movie. It was nightmarish, and I'm not describing the quality of the movie but the way the movie felt. It felt like a nightmare. *shudder* Scary stuff! 1 star.
This is one of my all-time favorites! It didn't make the same emotional impact as Dumbo or Bambi, but it's one of my top Disney picks just the same. I love the animation, the amalgamation of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass" and that nightmarish quality that you found so off-putting is, I think, part of what I dig about it. Plus, the Cheshire Cat is too cool for school!
I admit, though, I never cared for the music in this one. It's a very weak entry in the Disney canon.
