IMDb plot summary: The chronicles of four years in the life of Julie, a young woman who navigates the troubled waters of her love life and struggles to find her career path, leading her to take a realistic look at who she really is.
Directed by Joachim Trier. Starring Renate Reinsve, Anders Danielsen Lie, and Herbert Nordrum.
The Worst Person in the World follows Julie, a woman who isn't sure what she wants in life or how to go after it. We watch her as she tries to find happiness at work and in her love life, including figuring out how her long-term relationship fits or doesn't fit into her life goals. This is one of those long, meandering movie is where it's hard to tell if anything is actually leading to anything else. Julie is such a uncertain person that it's hard to relate to her, at least for me. She knows herself so little that I have a difficult time getting a grasp on her as well. The most interesting scenes to me are in the final third of the story, when she has some more interesting interactions with someone in her life who means more to her than she initially thought they did. it's the only indication we really get that Julie is interested in and capable of actual growth. This is the kind of movie that I feel other people probably love but it's not really for me.
